After reading this book, I began to look at my daughter’s food allergies in a completely different light. I began to realize there may be more to it than, “she was just born with it” or “she will out grow it”.
Dr. Bock presents a strong case for the “perfect storm” that is affecting our children today: toxins, nutritional deficiency, metabolic imbalance, and genetic vulnerabilities which all lead to a sensitiveGI and immune system, which, when attacked, can lead to the EPIDEMIC of one or all of the 4 A’s (AUTISM, ADHD, ASTHMA, and ALLERGY).
As I read this book I realized that these 4 A’sARE an epidemic. Six years ago when my son was born, I hardly knew any kiddos with these conditions and now I can count almost 100 local kiddos who I know are struggling with one or more of these conditions.
The most striking part to me of this book were the case studies and the stories of the patients Dr. Brock had treated. Many I could have sworn I knew, as he described their ear infection after ear infection followed by many courses of antibiotics, to tubes, to speech delays, etc… eventually resulting in the manifestation of one of the 4 A’s… not by accident, but because the immune system was under attack and remained under attack.
This book was also the first I read of a connection to common reactive chemicals actually making food allergy conditions worse… including: petrochemicals, formaldehyde, chlorine, Phenol, Ethanol, Fluoride, Benzyl alcohol, and glycerine(p.231).
The other thing I liked about this book is that Dr.Brock takes a methodical approach when treating his patients, realizing that each one is an individual and no 2 patients with the same disorder will tolerate the same treatment. His treatment plan is based on DATA from laboratory testing which he outlines and explains in a 4 tier process (p.,195) of multiple tests. He also explains in-depth the different types of nutritional therapies out thee and gives examples of a step-wise approach to implementing them. He also discusses in-depth the concept of YEAST overgrowth in the gut and the problems it can lead to.
Overall, I feel this book was exceptional in opening my eyes to the vast array of potential causes for some of today’s most mystifying diagnoses. He makes a CLEARcut case that these disorders are TREATABLE and that you can overcome some of the devastating side effects they cause for your child. The road to recovery is NOT easy and does not just require swallowing a magic pill…but he assures it is worth the effort!
